We get a lot of calls with questions and concerns regarding stump grinding as well as stump removals. There have been a lot of good questions, so I decided to put together some of the frequently asked questions here. If your question or concern is not on this page, then feel free to give me a call anytime.
What are the benefits of stump grinding?
Stump Grinding can keep your yard looking clean and tidy. Remaining stumps can be an eyesore, interfere with lawn care and be a tripping hazard after a tree has come down. Stump grinding can improve the overall health of your lawn by preventing the spread of diseases and pests. In addition, it also makes it easier to mow and fertilize your lawn and can even help to improve drainage. Stump grinding is a process that removes the stump quickly and effectively using specialized equipment, so if you're considering having a tree removed, look into stump grinding services. It's an investment that will pay off right away.
How Long Does It Take for a Tree Stump to Decay?
If the tree removal was done poorly and there is enough stump left over, you might find that the tree trunk is still living and can grow new foliage. Otherwise, yes, the tree stump will rot on its own. Granted, this can take 15 to 20 years depending on the size of the stump.
How Long Does Stump Grinding Take?
It depends on the size, age, and location of the stump.
How Deep Do You Grind a Stump?
It all depends on what you have planned in the future for the site, but the general rule is a minimum of 4" below grade level.
Do You Get Rid of the Roots Too?
Stump grinding does not get at the roots, but we do grind down surface roots to prevent them from becoming tripping hazards. If you want the roots gone, then we recommend a stump removal rather than a stump grinding.
Will This Leave a Hole in My Yard?
Naturally, grinding the stump will create a hole in the ground but with our optional clean up service there is options available that will cover the hole, so that you don’t have an uneven landscape.
What Do You Do with The Woodchips and Debris?
We can use the debris to cover the hole back in to make the terrain level again. We are also happy to haul away the remainder with our optional clean up service. Some homeowners prefer to keep the mulch for their flower and vegetable gardens.
Do You Offer Discounts on Multiple Stumps?
Yes, we do offer discounts on multiple stumps. We are happy to work with you on pricing, please give us a call for more details.
DO I NEED TO REMOVE THE TREE STUMP?
Some homeowners leave the tree stump until it rots, but I do advise against this for a couple reason. The tree stump can become a trip hazard, it makes lawn maintenance unnecessarily challenging and can damage your lawn mower. Also, tree stumps can become breeding grounds for pests like termites and rats as well as fungus and mushrooms. Many property owners choose to remove/grind down the tree stump to avoid these unnecessary headaches. In return they get a beautiful Low Maintenance Lawn.
